NEW FACADE & ADDITION ON THE LEFT SIDE

Lyon Village Residence 2 - Sustainability ahead of time

This project shows how a house can evolve without losing its soul. The character of the original structure is preserved, while the spaces gain the clarity, flow, and comfort of a contemporary home. We kept the existing footprint and reused materials wherever possible. When the old porch became the new main entry, the demolition bricks were salvaged to build a new wall, and missing portions were completed by parging the concrete block. This cost-conscious approach strengthened the conversation between the home’s historic texture and the new interventions. The redesigned, energy-efficient openings follow the same logic: clean, modern lines set against the irregularity of the existing surfaces, each heightening the other. To create a generous lower level, the former garage and basement were combined to house three bedrooms and a playroom. The attic was opened up to overlook the new open living area, allowing the entire home to feel connected vertically as well as horizontally. Every step relied on selective demolition so the existing structure could genuinely contribute to the final design. The result is a warm, contemporary home built on the value of what was already there.

PLDESIGN has been repurposing and reusing existing building materials for more than two decade.
